Who we are

The Empowered Woman was founded by Sahba Clara, a human rights advocate and community development practitioner with over a decade of experience working across cultures and communities to advance gender equality and social justice.

Through her work in Australia and internationally, Sahba has engaged with diverse communities—from grassroots groups to leadership and institutional spaces—exploring how gender, culture and power shape the experiences of women and girls. Her commitment to this work is also personal.

Through her own journey of healing from trauma, Sahba came to understand that empowerment is not only about transforming systems, but also about supporting women to reconnect with their voice, safety and inner strength.

The Empowered Woman brings together trauma-informed practice, strength-based approaches and practical skills through empowered self defence workshops, training and courageous conversations on gender equality.

Our programs are tailored to the needs of the women, communities and workplaces we support. We collaborate with a trusted network of specialists, including domestic violence experts, cultural advisors and experienced male self defence facilitators.
