Navigating Challenging Conversations Training

Speaking on topics of gender, violence, and respect is not easy.

We explore how to speak about these issues in ways that are effective,  respectful, informed, and psychologically safe.

Library Study Session

Many people care deeply about issues such as sexism, domestic and family violence, sexual assault, and the high rates of women being harmed or killed by intimate partners. However, these topics can feel difficult to raise in families, communities, and workplaces. People often worry about saying the wrong thing, creating conflict, or not knowing how to respond if someone shares a personal experience.

Our training supports participants to develop the confidence and skills to speak about these issues in ways that are respectful, informed, and psychologically safe. The program focuses on building understanding while creating space for constructive dialogue rather than blame or confrontation.

Participants learn practical tools to navigate challenging conversations, respond to harmful attitudes, and communicate about gender equality and violence prevention in ways that encourage awareness, empathy, and positive change.

The training explores:

  • How to talk about feminism, sexism, and gender equality in constructive ways

  • Understanding domestic and family violence, sexual assault, and coercive control

  • Why these issues can be difficult for people to hear or discuss

  • Practical communication skills for challenging conversations

  • Responding to victim-blaming or harmful comments safely and respectfully

  • Supporting someone who may disclose violence or abuse

  • Creating safe discussions in families, community groups, and workplaces

This training helps participants move from silence or discomfort to confident, informed conversations that contribute to safer communities and more respectful relationships.

By building the skills to talk about these issues well, individuals and organisations can play an important role in challenging harmful attitudes, supporting those affected by violence, and strengthening a culture of respect and equality.
